Bertha Benz (1849-1944) was Karl Benz's wife. Karl was the inventor of the first gasoline-powered automobile. She invested her dowry of 4,500 gold marks in his start-up automobile company, which helped him develop and manufacture the first gasoline-powered car. Without her investment, the automobile might not have been developed or commercialized as early as it was.
